History of the Maximillian

The USS Maximillian was established in May of 1992 by Captain Robert S. Lyon and Commander Gregory A. Dunn in Marion, Ohio.  During Lyon's two year term as commanding officer, the ship's groundwork was established with an initial compliment of a dozen crew members.  Despite Marion's relatively small population and lack of resources, the ship maintained a decent activity program for Star Trek fans in the area.

In May of 1994 Lyon was forced to step down from Command due to academic obligations.

The Original crew appointed Lyon as their founding Admiral, and Captain Matt Morris was given command.  Under Morris's administration the Max was moved to Columbus, Ohio where it began to grow and prosper.  The elaborate award system was put into place at this time to recognize members for their dedication to the ship and community.

In March of 1998 Captain Terry McPherson was elected to the center seat.  McPherson was forced to step down due to health concerns in March of 1999, and Captain Elaine Jackson then assumed Command of the ship through February 2000.  In March of 2000 Sidley Howard was elected Captain of the Max and served until February of 2002, when Captain Charles Connor was elected, choosing to step aside in February of 2004.

Captain Chris Stephenson commanded a ship of over three dozen members when he was sworn in.  There were almost 70 members when he ended his 2nd term of office in February 2008.

Captain C.J. Biro was the next to take the helm from 2008 - 2010, followed by Captain Mike Stanley, who had to step down in mid-term due to other obligations.  Captain Richard Watson then assumed command to finish out the term.

In January 2012 Commodore Charles Connor was sworn in once again as Commanding Officer.

In 2013 Captain Melinda Coates was appointed as Commanding officer by Admiral Charles Connor.  Having served as CO for 4 years until January 2017 she felt it was time to step aside to pursue other activities.

Captain Nathan Cobaugh was then appointed as CO and assumes command in February 2017 through 2018 after which Keith Culbertson was elected and served until March of 2020 but due to unforeseen circumstances stepped down from the office.  John Chubb and Robert Souder were appointed as Co-Captains to finis out the term.

In the meantime the Covid pandemic hit and the club had to suspend in-person meetings for a while.  So during this state of emergency no elections were held and John and Robert held their positions as Co-Captains.

In January of 2022 things started getting more back to normal, so nominations and an election were held.  Robert Souder was elected as the new commanding officer for this term.

Richard Watson, Chris Stephenson, Melinda Coates and Nathan Cobaugh having been past commanding officers now serve on the USS Maximillian's Admiralty Advisory Board.  Charles Connor was appointed as the new Inspector General by Greg Dunn.
